Vicipoll Privacy Policy

Last Updated: March 15, 2026

At Vicipoll, we believe that community intelligence should never come at the cost of personal privacy. Our “Privacy by Design” approach ensures that while your voice is heard, your identity remains invisible.

1. The Core Principle: Anonymous Participation

Vicipoll is built on the foundation of Total Anonymity.

We do not attach your name, email address, or Vicilook profile ID to any vote, report, or “Situation” update.

In our database, a vote for SECURITY@NSUKKA is recorded as a data point, not a personal action. Neither other users nor Vicilook administrators can see who cast a specific vote.

2. Location Data & GPS Validation

To ensure the integrity of our “Always Live” physical community reports, Vicipoll requires access to your device’s GPS location.

Purpose of Collection: We use your coordinates solely to verify that you are physically present within the vicinity of the @vicitag you are reporting on (e.g., ensuring you are actually in Nnewi when voting on ELECTRICITY@NNEWI).

Proof of Presence: Once your location validates your eligibility to vote, the specific coordinates are processed to place a “Situation Dot” on the map.

No Continuous Tracking: Vicipoll does not track your movements in the background. Location data is only requested at the moment you interact with a poll or report a situation.

3. Spatial Obfuscation (User Safety)

Your physical safety is paramount. To prevent anyone from identifying your exact home or current location:

The 300-Meter Offset: When your vote appears on the public Vicipoll map, the system automatically applies a randomized 300-meter offset.

Regional Visualization: The map dot reflects the region of the situation, never the precise spot where you are standing.

4. Data Storage & Retention

Aggregated Data: We store the aggregated totals of votes (e.g., the percentage of “ON” vs “OFF” for electricity) indefinitely to provide historical community trends.

Ephemeral Validation: Raw GPS coordinates used for the initial validation are not stored in a way that can be linked back to a specific user account.

Updating Votes: When you update a vote (changing a “YES” to a “NO”), the old data point is replaced by the new one to maintain real-time accuracy.

5. Third-Party Sharing

No Sale of Personal Data: We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information or your specific voting history to third parties, advertisers, or data brokers.

Public Data Hubs: Aggregated, anonymous community data (e.g., “80% of Nsukka reports no power

6. Global Privacy Rights

7. Security

We employ industry-standard encryption and security layers to protect the Vicilook digital infrastructure. Our backend architecture is specifically designed to isolate polling data from user profile data, ensuring a “firewall” between your identity and your civic contributions.

8. Changes to This Policy

As Vicipoll evolves into a global infrastructure layer, we may update this policy. Any significant changes will be notified via the Vicilook platform.
